Dmitry A. Sychev, Dr. Sci. Research interests:

Clinical pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics; applied aspects of clinical pharmacology technologies of personalised medicine (pharmacogenetic testing, therapeutic drug monitoring) in internal diseases; clinical aspects of the biotransformation of medicinal products, including cytochrome P450 isoenzymes and drug transporters (P-glycoprotein, organic anion and cation transporters); molecular mechanisms of pharmacokinetic drug–drug interactions and polypharmacy in clinical practice; prevention of adverse drug reactions and assurance of drug safety for patients; polypharmacy management and deprescribing in older patients; information technology in clinical pharmacology; methodology of teaching clinical pharmacology.

Key research accomplishments:

D.A. Sychev’s research interests lie in developing and studying of “omics” biomarkers (including pharmacogenetic testing) and in personalising the use of essential medicinal products in patients with cardiovascular, mental, respiratory, and gastrointestinal conditions, tuberculosis, cancer, etc., including in the case of polypharmacy, to reduce the risk of adverse drug reactions. D.A. Sychev’s research team studied pharmacogenomic, pharmacoepigenomic, and pharmacometabolomic biomarkers that reflect a patient’s individual pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. D.A. Sychev led the development of pharmacotherapy personalisation strategies based on pharmacogenomic, pharmacoepigenomic, and pharmacometabolomic biomarkers to treat common and socially significant diseases. D.A. Sychev coordinated the working group that developed the professional standard for clinical pharmacologists.

D.A. Sychev is the author of 1016 publications in scientific journals, 28 monographs, 19 methodological guidelines, 20 textbooks, 19 utility patents and 19 software and database patents of the Russian Federation.

Awards:

D.A. Sychev is a holder of the Russian Government Award for achievements in science and technology and the N.P. Kravkov Prize for the best work in the field of pharmacology and toxicology. D.A. Sychev received a Letter of Gratitude from the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and a Letter of Gratitude from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. He holds a Certificate of Merit from the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and a Certificate of Merit from the RAS for the long-term commitment to medical science in the field of clinical pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics, as well as the training of highly qualified scientific personnel. D.A. Sychev is decorated with the Alexei Leonov Medal for global achievements and outstanding contributions to the development of the Russian Federation and, in particular, the Kemerovo Region, and for the development and implementation of unique and innovative projects in various areas of the economy of the Kemerovo Region. D.A. Sychev is a Distinguished Scientist of the Russian Federation, an Emeritus Professor of the Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, and an Excellent Health Worker of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

D.A. Sychev has headed research projects funded by the Russian Science Foundation, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, and the Presidential Grant for Young Doctors of Sciences and Science Schools.

Currently, D.A. Sychev works for the RAS as a Deputy Chairperson of the Interdepartmental Council on the Scientific Substantiation and Support of Drug Policy of the Russian Federation and a Deputy Chairperson of the Presidium Council on Personalised Medicine. In addition, he is a member of the Board of the Biomedical Sciences Section of the Department of Medical Sciences and a member of the Science Popularisation Commission of the RAS. The Applied Research Committee and the Scientific Council of the Russian Ministry of Health include him as a member. D.A. Sychev is an expert for the Russian Science Foundation and for the Russian Foundation for Basic Research. He coordinates the Formulary Committee of the National Medical Chamber. D.A. Sychev chairs the Thesis Boards for Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology and for Internal Medicine at the Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education; he is a member of the Thesis Board for Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology at Sechenov University. D.A. Sychev is the President of the Society of Pharmacogenetics, Pharmacokinetics, and Personalised Therapy. He is a member of the Board of the Association of Clinical Pharmacologists, a Deputy Chairperson of the International Association of Clinical Pharmacologists and Pharmacists, and a member of the Presidium of the National Medical Chamber. For 8 years, he represented Russia and served on the Executive Committee of the European Association for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (EACPT).
